Shortly after the crash, Carol (Nicole Kidman) several aberrant phenomena. For example, one of her patients complains that her husband has been "changed. She asks herself why so many people across the country are affected, and why city streets are becoming so quiet, as if nobody dare get out of their houses anymore.
